He's used to looking for the signs people are interested, reading between his lines, understanding the things he's not saying and the implications of the things he is. It's not just when flirting either, it's part of his negotiation strategy. But he's getting no signs he would normally expect here, nothing to tell him if he should continue or not.
But he's also not getting "no", either, no signs that Kai is trying to escape or doesn't want to continue the conversation. So he thinks, maybe he dares a little further. He trusts himself to smooth it over if he goes too far, doesn't really think he's in danger of losing Kai, or he would never take the risk.
So he lets his eyes drop to Kai's mouth for a moment, a slow drag back up to his eyes, while he asks,
"And now? Would you want to?" there's still the barest hint of deniability, if he needs it, if Kai freaks out, but it's miniscule, and if he somehow still doesn't understand what he's really asking, he's already prepared in the next moment to be much more bold with it.
