Kai, that is not a topic change. Shit, now he's thinking about it. He was trying not to think about it. Still... Bashasa might feel like he's in freefall at this point, but he's also a tactician, and there's a lot he's never felt like he could ask about Kai, about the Saredi and his place there. And he's also aware that Kai's uncomfortable, but he's not shutting the conversation down either, not really. He doesn't quite let hope settle in his chest, but he does make the decision that this is, at the very least, a good way to find out more about Kai, even if that's all it is.
